About
Ariana Afghan Airlines was established in January 1955. An American commercial pilot relocated several war-surplus Dakota Aircraft to Afghanistan which he had been operating as a private air service in India after the end of World War ll. Prior to that there had been no air service for passengers within Afghanistan, even though the Royal Afghan Air Force had been in existence for some years. The utility of air travel was soon recognized by the Afghan Government, and the airline was incorporated more formally as "Ariana Afghan Airlines".

An interesting footnote to that event was that the Shah of Afghanistan personally designed the logo for the new airline, the very same logo which is still proudly retained. The design represents the Afghan Swallow whose graceful fight has always delighted Afghans throughout the ages, and the blue field was inspired by precious stone lapis lazuli, found uniquely in the high mountains of Afghanistan.

The airline Safi Airways - IATA-Code 4Q - was founded in 2006. Safi Airways is positioned to connect Afghanistan with the international business centers of the world and to establish a domestic Afghanistan airline service with highest quality and safety standards. 
This private airline has its headquarter in Kabul/Afghanistan and an administrative office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 

Safi Airways currently operates a pure Boeing fleet of B737-300 and B 767-200ER. The executive team of Safi Airways is made up of seasoned European airline Executives from Germany and Belgium. The Cockpit Crews are well seasoned European and US pilots.

As first airline in the history of Afghan aviation, Safi Airways has been re-organized to satisfy the strict ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization, a UN organization based in Montreal, Canada) rules for a scheduled airline. In an audit by ICAO inspectors of all Afghan airlines, Safi Airways has been certificated as the only Afghan airline which is ICAO compliant.

Pamir Airways was inaugurated in May 1995 and is the first private airline in the history of Afghanistan to receive the Air Operator Certificate from the Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Islamic Government of Afghanistan. Pamir Airways derived its name from the one of the highest mountain ranges in the world; the PAMIR MOUNTAIN is located in Afghanistan and throughout Central Asia.

Initially, Pamir Airways started its operation with one Boeing 707-320 and two AN-12 aircrafts.During the past two hajj seasons, Pamir Airways played a major role in successfully serving Afghan pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. Pamir Airways carried 9000 pilgrims in 2004 and 15000 pilgrims in 2005.


We are proud of our accomplishments to say that Pamir Airways has contributed and provided at the request of Government of Afghanistan a DC-10 aircraft free of charge to transport the Afghan Government's aid workers and supplies first aids to the Tsunami victims in Indonesia at the year 2005.
